Heaven bound, but still a finishing line to cross

Welcome to North Base Camp.

Welcome to North Base Camp. My name is Ian Sherwood,

What is revealed here is a little of what makes me tick, and why I can honestly say I have enjoyed my 63+ years on this wonderful planet earth..

Vegetables and all things green

My allotment is a great place to chill out after a day at work. I'm no expert but I love to try my hand at growing a few vegetables each year. Nothing beats the taste of home grown food. My greenhouse is also a great place to spend time sowing watering abd watching small seeds grow into wonderful plants ready to go to the allotment.

Camping and the open doors

Ever since I went on my first scout camp at Cuffley in rural Hertfordshire I have loved the experience of camping out doors. As a family, right from when our three children were young, we have enjoyed the delights of camping in glorious sunshine and blowing gails with heavy rain. Camping gives you that arsenal of many a great story of a night spent in a field somewhere in the UK.

Coffee and tea

I spend too much time sitting in coffee shops ..but then just having that time to think and check and recheck the to do list on my phone . I love to try out new places to eat and drink. But also enjoy returning to old favourites where its tried and tested. There us always that surprise when a lovely frequented place us now not the experience enjoyed in the past.

Thoughts on life and the universe

My spiritual journey took off when I was 15 years old - Some years previous I had begun to discover what the Bible had to say about who Jesus was and how his actions long long ago could possibly change my life. To cut a long story short on 18th Feb 1977 I became a born again Christian. A simple prayer asking for forgivness and promising to commit my life over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ . My name entered God’s book of Life. My whole experince since then has been wholly based on the holy scriptures - The very bible itself

My beliefs

God is real and is sole creator of this planet and all that exists upon it. Jesus, God’s only son was born into this world with a mission to go to a cruel death on an execution Roman cross some 2000 years ago. I firmly believe that act of sacrifice by the Son of God was for the salvation of mankind and to make a way whereby man ( and woman) can make their peace with a Holy righteous God. I lay no claim to being good nor have I ever done anything that would grant me a right to be in God’s presence. Yet I know that I have been accepted into God’s family and now have a right to share in the abundance of heaven when I leave this world at the end of my life.

Passages in the Bible

The bible scriptures which back up my belief.... John Chapter 3 verse 16 and 17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John Chapter 14 verse 6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me Romans Chapter 5 verse 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us 1 John Chapter 1 verse 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The real Big Issue

Many a time have I walked through a shopping centre and been confronted by a person selling the big issue.. It has always struct me that the real big issue is not contained in the articles in a magazine but that age old problem of the human race and our destructive ability to turn our back on our creator. The good news is there is a wonderful solution to this big issue found in the grace that God offers us in salvation.

Some great places to visit

Whther it’s a National Trust house or a waterfall off the beaten track, here are some of my favorite places I have visited over the years.

Dunstanburgh Castle - Northumberland
A quite place for reflection
National Trust
Cadir Idris - South Snowdonia
A mountain path well trod but worth every step
